Dignity NYC 2012
NYC Fire Museum | 7PM - 10PM
278 Spring Street, New York City | View Map
Each year, Acumen Fund chapters around the world host a large fundraising event around the theme of striving for Dignity, rather than dependence. Acumen Fund founder, Jacqueline Novogratz sums up the night’s meaning:
“Poor people seek dignity, not dependence. Traditional charity often meets immediate needs but too often fails to enable people to solve their own problems over the long term. Market-based approaches have the potential to grow when charitable dollars run out, and they must be a part of the solution to the big problem of poverty.“
The event will feature a beautiful photo exhibit curated by Nuru Project for NY+acumen to highlight Acumen Fund’s mission to create a world beyond poverty where all people have dignity. Prints will be available for sale and at auction, and 50% of all photo proceeds will go directly to Acumen Fund investments. The event will take place at the historic New York City Fire Museum, and will feature an open bar and catered food.
